Multi-page digital portfolio designed and developed for Alex Natola.
Overview

The project started from scratch in 2024 with the goal of building Alex Natola's digital presence as an emerging singer-songwriter and author. I handled the full process: visual identity, UI/UX, graphic design, copy, development with Astro, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, responsive behaviour, SEO, domain setup, hosting, forms, email and ongoing maintenance. Over time, the website evolved through three major versions leading to the 2026 update.

The challenge

Alex had neither a website nor a structured visual identity, so the project had to define both how he would be presented online and the visual language used to communicate his work as a singer and songwriter.

The website needed to feel personal without losing professional credibility: it had to present his background, showcase his songs, provide clear contact paths and speak to both younger and adult audiences.

As the project evolved, especially with the 2026 version, the creative direction became more open. This made it possible to develop a more mature interface built around dark mode, animation and a more distinctive navigation experience.

Constraints

There was no existing brand identity. Alex suggested a colour direction, while the logo, typography and broader visual system were developed as part of the project. The logo features an A transformed into a star paired with the name in cursive, while the website uses an open-source typeface selected for the project.

Photography was supplied directly by Alex and integrated into the visual system. The website needed to work as a complete multi-page portfolio, remain fully responsive and maintain a consistent visual presence entirely in dark mode.

The approach

The brief developed through direct, ongoing conversations with Alex. Our familiarity and the clarity of the intended direction made it possible to define the website's goals, tone and structure quickly.

Rather than shaping the direction around a moodboard or a formal competitor analysis, the project moved directly into wireframing. The intention was to prioritise a personal visual language instead of modelling the website around common patterns used by other artists.

From the wireframe I moved into UI design and identity definition, covering palette, typography, logo, hierarchy, composition, animation and navigation behaviour.

The website was developed with Astro, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with attention to responsive design, SEO, forms, email and deployment. It was initially published through GitHub and later moved to Netlify to simplify deployment and maintenance.

After the first launch, the project remained in active evolution, with only a small number of corrective revisions and broader updates that led to three major versions of the website.

The outcome

The website is currently used by Alex Natola as his personal and professional portfolio, with a dedicated domain, pages focused on his work and songs, and integrated contact tools.

Between January and August 2026, the website recorded 74 active users, 73 new users and 376 events. The numbers are still modest, but they confirm real-world use and provide a concrete baseline for measuring future growth.

The project continues to be maintained and updated, evolving over time alongside Alex's artistic and professional development.
